Is there anyone who knows what the sign on the blade means?

Maybe this thread is from help: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ight=centipede

Nice Kris! :)

Spunger mentioned to me a possibility that the silver inlay picture is an okir volcano when seen going up the blade from the base. I am tending to believe him a similar motif on one of my Sulu krises and yours may be the same.

Although some would disagree with me, I also say that the "X" marks are talismanic.

You have a great kris there.

Thank you Battara.

Islamic symbol

Hi Dajak,
Don't know anything about kerisses, so I am just guessing, but to me, it looks like another stylized version of the "tree of life" motif. This is fairly common Islamic symbol on blades, but also on other items like copper ware, rugs etc. and it has many semi-abstract manifestations.

A VERY FINE KRIS, THERE ARE NOT MANY LIKE IT AROUND. THE WIRE WRAP ON THE GRIP IS UNUSUAL TOO IS IT SILVER WIRE OR JUST FIBER THAT LOOKS LIKE SILVER? A CLOSEUP OF THE HANDLE AND POMMEL WOULD BE NICE. THANKS :)

Dajak:

Very nice kris. I like the "basket weave" effect of the silver wrap on thehilt. This is not a unique example, but it is a very uncommon form of silver wire treatment on these swords.

What's the blade length of yours, Ben?
(Difficult to estimate from the pics...)

Regards,
Kai

The blade is 57 cm and all over 68 cm wide 4 cm.

Hi Dajak,

I think your 57 cm blade falls within the "normal" size range for the Moro kris. The antiques that I've personally handled have ranged from 47-58 cm. I've seen more recent made blades that are up to around 65 cm long.
