1129 - Small Utility Knife

This small utilitarian knife was included with Lew's ethnographic arms collection and is of uncertain origin. The single-edged blade sharpened along the straighter side and is 3¾ inches (9.7 cm) in length an a fairly uniform 0.03 inch (0.075 cm) in thickness. The blade shows areas of discoloration and very shallow pitting. The handle and sheath are of different woods and have been secured with coarse black thread varnished along with the wood. The knife measures 8¼ inches (21 cm) in length and weighs only 0.7 ounce (20 grams). Overall sheathed length is just over 8½ inches (21.8 cm) with a weight of one ounce (29 grams).
