1125 - Philippine Dagger with Brass and Horn Hilt and Leather Sheath

The single-edged blade of this elegant small dagger is 6¾ inches (17.2 cm) in length. At first glance the blade seems quite symmetrical as the widening of the blade ends with a midway angled clip beginning opposite the edge curving convexly to an acute point. The blade has a dark gray finish in fairly good condition. A brass guard and bolster start a water buffalo horn grip with circular bone inserts. The hilt terminates with an exposed peened tang surrounded by a conical brass washer. The knife measures 11.2 inches (28.5 cm) in length and weighs 5.4 ounces (153 grams). A somewhat dried leather sheath brings overall length to 11½ inches (29.4 cm) exclusive of the somewhat frayed tassels. Overall weight is 6.55 ounces (186 grams). Lew dated this dagger as 1940s.
