1102 - Sumatran Aceh Hulu Meucangee Rencong Dagger with a Horn Hilt

The 8½ inch (22 cm) long single edged blade has a predominantly concave edge that becomes convex as it turns into the point and features a barely perceptible peak arising from the edge side about a quarter of the blade length from the origin, then running parallel with the spine before curving opposite to meet the spine at about three quarters of the blade length. The spine is 0.25 inch (0.63 cm) thick upon departure from the hexagonal integral bolster or stem. The blade widens at the base on the edge side and has florally decorated edges; overall the blade shows mild patchy darker areas with mild pitting and a few longitudinal folding flaws may be seen. The body of the hilt has been formed of translucent yellow-gray tan horn that widens before transforming into a protrusion facing opposite the edge. Old narrow cracks may be seen running with the grain of the horn material. The dagger measures 12 inches (31 cm) with a weight of 4.7 ounces (134 grams). A well fitting wooden scabbard features deep floral themed carvings at the mouth and over the back of the tip and light engraving on the scabbard faces. There are some long narrow cracks running lengthwise in the wood that appears to be a single piece (one part). Overall sheathed length is 14½ inches (37 cm) with a weight of 5.6 ounces (160 grams).
