1075 - Philippine Robust Bolo Knife with Caribou Horn Hilt and Leather Sheath

The single edged blade is 16 inches (41 cm) in length and 0.27 inch (0.69 cm) thick near the hilt. The spine of the blade shows some indentations, especially about a third of the way from the hilt, suggesting previous abuse as a chisel. The gray steel finish shows patchy discoloration and some light pitting. A group of marks is present on one face of the blade. An iron ferrule / bolster provides reinforcement to the hilt at the origin of a hilt shaped from caribou (water buffalo) horn. Some shallow chipping of the horn is noted adjacent to the bolster. An iron tang washer at the end of the hilts supports the peened tang. A dark leather sheath shows some embossed decoration on one face, an aluminum rivet and tunnels for a cord near the mouth. Overall length is 22¼ inches (57 cm) with a weight of 28½ ounces (810 grams).
