1003 - Khukuri knife

This heavy khukuri (kukri) is unmarked as to origin and may be either Nepalese or of Indian manufacture in the second half of the 20th century. Overall length of the handle and blade is 16 1/4 inches with the blade length being just over 11 inches. The dark horn handle has white metal inlays and brass decorations that may be the ends of pins. A closed crack and slight chipping are present. A simple cap of thin brass forms the hilt end and a brass bolster tapers down to the blade. The back of the blade is a robust 0.32 inches, but the cho and engraving are rudimentary. The leather covered wooden scabbard is trimmed in thin embossed 'white' metal with a brass panel. The leather cover has split along a sewn seam on the back side. A pouch on the back side has spaces for two small by-knives, but only one remains with the set.
