149 - East African Spear, late 19th Century

Lew cataloged this spear as East African, circa 1885 to 1898. The leaf shaped blade measures just under 9½ inches (23.8 cm in length) with each face having a concave facet wither side of a central mid rib. Incised decoration is present at the transition from the blade to the neck of this socketed spearhead and overall length of the spearhead is 15½ inches (39.5 cm). The shaft is of smooth, dark wood that expands ever so slightly in diameter in its mid portion. The iron butt piece is of spatulate chisel form. Overall length is 70¾ inches (180 cm) with a weight of just over 18 ounces (525 grams).
