57 - Indonesian Knife with a Parrot Head Hilt and Wooden Scabbard

The single edge blade is 10½ inches (27 cm) in length and tapers down from a thickness of 0.24 inch (0.6 cm); the taper increases in final third towards the tip to create a false back edge. A blunt cutout for a finger hold is present at the base of a blade that then assumes a convex profile. The blade has been polished bright with only slight patchy staining. The well carved wooden hilt has a bold 'tiger stripe' grain and terminates in a stylized parrot's head with brass tacks serving as the eyes. The knife measures just over 14½ inches (37 cm) and weighs 7.2 ounces (205 grams). The scabbard is made of darker wood, with incised carving decorating the mouth end, and the two halves are secured by three rattan bands and some small nails. Sheathed length is 15 inches (38 cm) with a weight of 9.1 ounces (260 grams).
